Family Planning Options

11/13/2021

I'm so glad that everything went pretty okay with all four of my deliveries. Other than my epidural not working at all with my second delivery, I was healthy and so was Zara. I've always wanted four children, two girls and two boys and God blessed me with just that. My oldest is a boy with two girls in the middle and the last is a boy. I feel so blessed for the gift that God have given me. So now, I've decided to not have anymore children as for now and continue to focus on my career and home life! I think I'm pretty lucky and so I've thought about many ways to protect myself from an "Oops Baby", which pretty much means it's unplanned :).

So I talked to my doctor after my last child and decided to do a birth control, IUD option because quite frankly, I was nervous about getting the patch. The pill was definitely not an option for two reasons: 1) I don't want to forget to take it and 2) I HATE PILLS!

Long story short, I tried the "Paragard" IUD birth control and I was excited about the experience until a week later and I was in pain every hour. It was quite a nightmare for me and after 3 weeks of trying to "stick it out", I called my OB office and asked that the Paragard was removed immediately. The receptionist first ignored my request saying that I should wait until my next follow up because she believed that there weren't any doctors available to see me that day even though I expressed that I was unable to have bowel movements due to the IUD and that also my pain felt like contractions. Every woman who have had a child knows that contractions aren't enjoyable.

I pushed further to see the doctor or I will have to go to the ER and have it removed. I was placed on hold and was invited into the office and have it removed. I arrived and it took less than an hour for the procedure. I'm still traumatized from the event. My body is starting to adjust to it normal self. I'm still in pain but at least it's not as often as to when I had the Paragard. I did more research about Paragard and it's a nightmare for a lot of women and it makes me wonder why this is still being sold to patients??
